AKS-74U

Luckily, DayZ Mod keeps things in mind like barrel and gun length. So unlike other guns, the AKS74U is a really compact gun, and its very good in close - quarters. Or running/checking through a building.

I just found one in the fire station in Cherno - easy to get to from the southern end, just crawled the whole way with no hassle from zombies or bandits, was on top floor of observation tower. Havent used it yet tho, hopefully I'll find me a bandit

Found this in the first fifteen minutes of gameplay at a deer stand. Kept it for four days before being destroyed by three people with undermounted grenade launchers.

If I find this and a normal AK I will always pick up the AKSU. Why? I find the ironsights are better and because of the short barrel its not awkward shooting zeds heads indoors

Spent 4 days inside elektro with only this gun and ended up dying from a patch. gg

I really think this is the best gun against zombies in the game. The smaller barrel just makes it way easier to aim at zombies even when they are running at you. All the other rifles have a way too long barrel that almost always stands in the way and makes it awkward to shoot.
